WDSS has extensive experience delivering turn-key systems to international customers. Below are brief descriptions of several of WDSS international installations.

Airfield Safety Solutions

Dubai International Airport (DXB)

WDT installed an Aviation Weather Decision Support System (AWDSS) at the Dubai International Airport. The components for this installation included integration of a radiomter, wind profiler, weather radar, and installation of a high-resolution version of WRF, hazardous weather algorithms and display systems.

Lightning Decision Support System

Greece – Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS)

As part of the 2004 Olympic Greece modernization plan a Lightning Decision Support System (LDSS) in Athens and Larissa, Greece for HNMS was installed. The LDSS ingests data from a lightning location network, radar and satellite data, and uses algorithms to forecast the location and intensity of lightning out to an hour in advance. Additionally, LDSS algorithms produce automated lightning alerts for desired HNMS locations and also provide Estimated Time of Arrival/Departure (ETA/ETD) information.

Hydromet Decision Support System

Indonesia – Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika (BMKG)

This project involved installation of hardware and software to build out a HydroMet Decision Support System (HDSS) in the Jakarta Central Forecast Office for BMKG. The BMKG HDSS integrates several radars from different manufacturers, surface stations, and satellite data to provide BMKG forecasters with advanced nowcasting capabilities including data quality control, radar mosaics, reflectivity prediction, and QPE/QPF. The map shows the BMKG radars that have been centralized.

Hydromet Decision Support System

The Philippines – Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)

The system installed at PAGASA headquarters in Manila consists of the integration of multiple radars, surface stations, satellite data, and installation of hardware and high-resolution WRF, hazardous weather detection and prediction algorithms, and forecasters displays.

Thailand – Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) Aviation Weather

The installation at BKK included a Lockheed Martin Coherent Technologies WindTracer lidar, Radiometrics VAD-BL wind profiler, automated algorithms for the detection of windshear, inversions, gust fronts, microbursts, and fog, and forecaster display systems.

Bahrain – Bahrain International Airport (BAH)

The installation at BAH included installation of a Radiometrics radiometer and integration of a Degreane wind profiler. Data are integrated and processed through wind shear, inversion, and fog detection algorithms and data and results provided in a forecaster display.

India – Indian Air Force (IAF)

The installation for IAF was in partnership with Earth Networks. The project included integration and processing of data from an Earth Networks Total Lightning Network and providing the Lightning Decision Support System (LDSS). LDSS contains integration software and algorithms to determine the location and intensity of lightning activity up to 60 minutes in advance along with customer asset monitoring and Estimated Times of Arrival/Departure (ETA/ETD) of lightning activity at these assets.

China – ShenZhen Meteorological Bureau (SZMB)

The project in ShenZhen involved integration of several regional radars, provision of hazardous weather algorithms, and a web based forecaster display as part of forecasting services for the 2011 University Games.

UAE – Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) SkyCast® Wind and Thermodynamic Profiling System (SWTPS)

The project at AUH SWTPS included the installation of a Radiometrics XBS-BL wind profiler and radiometer, automated algorithms for the detection and alerting of windshear, inversions, and fog, and VizAir – a web based forecaster display.

Hydromet Decision Support System

Argentina – City of Buenos Aires HydroMet Decision Support System

The purpose of the project being installed for the City of Buenos Aires is for general weather monitoring, hazardous weather detection and prediction, and potential flooding conditions across the city. The project includes integration of radar, satellite, surface station, stream gauge, and WRF forecast datasets. It includes all processing algorithms and a hydrological model. Display systems being delivered include the AWIPS II forecaster workstation, a Web based display termed iMap for forecasters, emergency managers, and the general public, and a hydro display termed MIKE.
